In a new interview with the conservative Spectator World magazine on Wednesday, Donald Trump praised Attorney General Merrick Garland–for not prosecuting him as of yet.
Interviewer Amber Athey asked Trump for his thoughts on Garland, whose nomination to the Supreme Court was famously obstructed by Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate under former President Barack Obama during the final eight months of his presidency. But under Trump, McConnell jammed his three nominees through the process as fast as he could, most notable with Amy Comey Barrett in the waning weeks of Trump’s tenure in office.

The interview’s publication coincides with the new bombshell Senate Judiciary Report revealing Trump’s conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Athey’s interview with Trump preceded the announcement, but his usual bravado was on display nonetheless.
Athey baited Trump by saying, “I’d love to get your reaction to Attorney General Merrick Garland mobilizing the FBI against parents who oppose Critical Race Theory at local school board meetings.”
Did you bother pointing out that no K-12 schools anywhere in this country are teaching CRT? Did you ask him if he knows what CRT really is? Do you?

“Well, I’m very surprised that he’d do it,” Trump replied. “The local boards have gone out of their way to really take over the school system and to do things that a lot of the parents disagree with — I would say almost all of the parents disagree with. It’s shocking what they’re doing. So I was surprised to see it.”

Athey went on to ask, “Do you think that the 20 GOP senators who voted to confirm Merrick Garland made a mistake?”
“No, I think that he’s a good man,” Trump replied. “I think he is a person that, you know, believes liberally. Somebody else would have gone in and it might have been different. You could have had somebody that would have been radical left. I don’t think he’s radical left, but not everybody would agree with what he’s doing, having to do with school boards.”
And what exactly is Merrick Garland's plan to address any of these things ? https://t.co/EuaQ9V7hJe

Trump might change his mind once Garland makes his decision on how to move forward in the wake of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s report. It’s clearly on his mind, because Trump then brought up prosecutions by the Department of Justice. “I guess people would like to see no politics involved. That includes going after people that are political or politicians with local, state and federal prosecutors, which is happening too, at a far greater rate,” Trump said. (By “people” he means himself, of course)
Athey also asked Trump his thoughts on Critical Race Theory and other issues impacting the 2022 races. You can read the full interview here.
